If you have an RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) card and it is being rejected by the charge point there is typically a technical solution to the problem. If the card doesn't seem to be interacting with the charge point (typically there is a "beep" and a change in the status lights when a card is detected by a charge point) there may be something wrong with the RFID system (card or the receiver).
Technical Problems
- If the card is new, it may not have been set-up correctly. RFID cards need to be authorised to access some charge points and this may not have been completed correctly. Please get in touch with us and we will be able to ascertain why your card is not working. This may also be due to the following:
- Your account profile may have expired (or not have been authorised yet). Some charge points use an annual type subscription, fee, or need to be authorised before being created. If your subscription has not been renewed your card may have expired. The best thing to do is to log into your profile and check your status. If required, once a payment have been made your account will be renewed. If your account is still waiting to be authorised the best person to speak to will be the site manager however we can follow up on your behalf if you wish.
- Your balance may need to be topped up. Some charge points use a tariff rate and debit from your account balance. Of your balance is too low (or negative) your card may be rejected. The best thing to do is to log into your profile and check your balance. If required, once a payment has been made your card will be reactivated.
RFID
- Check for damage - The RFID cards have a small metal wire around the perimeter of the card which acts an an electrical circuit. If the card is cracked or damage the circuit may be broken and the card will not work. You can check if the RFID card reader is operational by scanning a different card on the unit (such as a contactless payment card - no payment information is collected or stored).
- Double check you're scanning the card in the right place. The charge point should indicate where to swipe the RFID card. Hold the card against the reader if possible and it might be worth moving the card around to make sure the card is detected.
- On rare occasions, the RFID card reader may be faulty. If you are still having issues lease contact us so we can instigate and arrange a maintenance visit.
